Another disappointing match at The Rock. Losing a goal with what was the last kick of the ball. But in all fairness, Berwick deserved their win, as Sons put in a poor performance.
Winnie's opening lineup contained a few surprises, Paddy Flannery was on from the start with Bonar and Andy Brown dropped to the bench.
Berwick dominated the first half with passing and movement that was so much sharper than Dumbarton's. It wasn't until Joe Robertson came on early in the second half that Dumbarton started to get their shape. Too many intercepted passes and flick-ons to opposition players.
Two minutes before half time, Sons took the lead against the run of play. McCutcheon picked up the ball in the centre circle and headed for goal. Once in the box, he took the ball past two players, squared it to Lynes who had an easy job to score. But this was cancelled out in the 53rd minute with a similar goal scored by Berwick's Alex Burke.
Joe Robertson's introduction to the game, saw Dumbarton get right back into this match. Operating in the heart of the midfield, every attack seemed to go through him. Crilly was unlucky not get on the end of a flashing drive across the face of goal. McCutcheon and Flannery had a handful of great chances between them but couldn't find the net. McCutcheon had two one-on-one situations with the keeper but the keeper blocked both of them while Flannery had a couple of weak shots. Berwick were still looking dangerous though and Stephen Grindlay had to be alert on several occasions to keep the scores level.
In the final minute, Berwick won a corner from an attack which appeared to include a pass to a player in an offside position. From the corner, the ball was hit back across the penalty box. Berwick's Gary Wood lost his marker and headed the ball down to Grindlay's right hand side. He seemed to get both hands to it but it appeared to squirm out of his hands into the back of the net.
Immediately after the restart the referee, Gilmour (who had a very poor game), blew for full time and Sons found themselves on the bottom of the division.
