What a disappointment this game was. Not just because of the result but because of the way Dumbarton played. We can do so much better.
The Sons held out for about 15 minutes until Boyack scored after running through defence like it wasn't there and beating Meechan at his near post. Willie Falconer got the second after heading the ball in following a cross to the far post. He got his second a few minutes later when he blasted a twenty yarder well beyond Kenny. That goal came about after Billy Melvin lost the ball in the Dundee penalty area.
Dumbarton's only chance of note in the first half was a Joe Robertson free kick from 25 yards which the Dundee keeper, Douglas, scrambled round the post.
Dundee eased up in the second half and allowed the Sons more of the ball but we struggled to create any decent chances. Andy Brown, in particular, was woeful. Paddy Flannery didn't impress much either. I can't see him getting his dream move as a result of last night's performance.
Towards the end of the second half, it seemed that Dundee were doing a wee stint of shooting practise. There were a few that had Kenny Meechan scrambling across his goal and two that hit the woodwork. The second one, which was a 35-40 yard effort in the last minute and probably deserved to be a goal, eventually fell to Boyack who scored to round off an easy Dundee win.
Dumbarton just didn't get going in this game. There were far too many long balls aimed at nobody or Andy Brown. Brown hardly won anything. His control was crap. He was unbelievably slow. He should go. At one point you could see Tom Carson bow his head in disbelief following one of Brown's mistakes.
The game could be summed up by Dave, one of Gary's pals who was at his first Dumbarton match who asked, 'Why don't you pass to your own players ?'
