Dumbarton 6 Cowdenbeath 1

Well, what can you say. Dumbarton simply tore apart Cowdenbeath in the second half in a superb 15 minute spell.

Dave Stewart, playing in a forward role, got the first after 24 minutes with a diving header from a Joe Robertson free kick and at half time it was 1-0 to Dumbarton with Cowdenbeath having hardly threatened.

Everybody knew that 1-0 might not be enough to secure the points and after 50 minutes the floodgates opened. Joe Robertson took a corner which was blockedand the ball came back to him. I don't know whether he intended it or not, but he hit it low, with power, on the outside of his right boot to the edge of penalty box. Stephen Jack was there and hit a thunderous drive first time into the left of the net. He looked quite surprised with his effort.

A few minutes later, Toby King put the ball in the net after a scramble in the box. His second shortly after, was a quality strike from the edge of the box. Paddy Flannery was next to score but I didn't get a good view of it as I was at the pie shop. Chris Smith got the sixth after running onto a through ball and slipping it under the onrushing keeper.

As always seems to happen when a team walks away with a game, Dumbarton appeared to take their foot off the pedal much to the annoyance of The Other Sandy who had never seen Dumbarton score 7 before (In fact, who has ?). Cowdenbeath got their obligatory consolation goal late on. It was quite funny. Most of Cowdenfans hadn't bothered to walk round to the "big end" for the second half and werestanding in the cowshed. Unfortnately the angle they were watching from meantthat the delicate shot/lob from the Cowden player looked like it had went overand hit the pole supporting the net when in fact it went in off the crossbar. Sothere was the funny sight of Cowdenbeath scoring what looked like a lovely goaland not one of their fans cheering. So the Sons fans cheered for them !

Don't you just love football. Here's hoping a demolition is on the cards on Saturday in the "away leg" at Central Park.
