Our second home win in a row was a strange affair. Upon reflection, it was an exceptionally easy victory but with ten minutes to go and Dumbarton 2-0 up we still had our doubts. So much so that Sandy shouted "Come on Sons, get another one to make sure of the point". Isn't it nice to see that we have total faith in our team to defend a two goal lead ?
There were a couple of changes to the line-up. Kenny Meechan was back between the sticks and there was the remarkable sight of Martin "Twister" Glancy, our enigmatic winger, playing at right back. Ian Wallace also kept the same formation as the previous week with Sharp playing as sweeper, McKinnon in a more midfield position and Grace up front.
The first half kicked off in lovely spring sunshine and immediately turned into one of those meaningless end-of-season affairs. The pace was sedate and nothing much of note happened. Grace was put through one-on-one and did exactly what he did last week against Alloa, struck it too close to the keeper. And Kenny Meechan had to tip one over the bar.
Jim Meechan broke the deadlock two minutes before the interval. The ball came to him on the edge of the box following a corner. He took it on his knee and sent a looping shot into the top right corner.
The second goal came in the 77th minute courtesy of Martin Mooney. A long ball was played through and the Rovers number 7 misjudged the bounce of the ball. It fell to Grace who centred it to Mooney who in turn stuck it into the net. Simple stuff but effective.
From then on the game was sewn up. Albion Rovers hardly threatened at all and we all went down the pub with silly smiles on our faces.
