In the pub before the game, I said that I thought we'd win. My pals laughed at me. I wonder why ?
Dumbarton went behind in the 24th minutes following a corner. How many times have I said this season ? It does seem to be a particular weak spot for the team. And once again, the Sons didn't threaten much in the first half. The only chance of note was a low shot deflected just by the post. It was a dreadful half, one which seemed to drag on for hours.
The second half followed the same pattern until Mooney and Ward came on. Mooney injected some life into the midfield and equalized with a low shot from a free kick on the edge of the box. Spookily enough, Jim the Hippy had asked me, seconds before the goal, if Mooney had scored this season. 'Well he has now', I replied.
Unfortunately, a few minutes later, Wilson brought down a Cowden player in the box right in front of the referee. Funnily enough he awarded a penalty which was duly converted. Even if Wilson hadn't brought him down the ref might have given a penalty anyway. He missed 4 handball incidents at least one of which was in the box. So look out for the name of Graeme Allison (Dumfries). He's a crap referee so he's bound to go far.
Dumbarton did then seem to get their game together. We had at least three decent attempts on goal which the keeper saved, one shot hit the post and Flannery miskicked a sitter in the six yard box. But the ball wouldn't go in so another 3 points were lost and 8 Cowdenbeath fans went home happy.
I'm now starting to lose patience with Wallace. Yet another home defeat this time against the team propping up the division. OK, admittedly Cowdenbeath are doing better since Craig Levein took over but the are still basically a crap team. A team that we should have hammered. If Montrose had won Dumbarton would have dropped to second bottom place. If that happens, I'll be shouting for Wallace's head.
