Guest Report from Sandy McGregor.
Less than twenty Sons fans had made the trip to Shielfield. A couple of Stockport County fans were there to make up the numbers as part of their three games in three days spell.
Pat Flannery was playing up front alongside Colin McKinnon. Wind was blowing diagonally across the pitch. Berwick had the benefit of it in the first half. They were very much on top of it for the first half. Kenny Meechan was looking safe at the back. Now that the Sons had a big centre forward to aim the ball at they decided to give up crossing the ball. The Sons cleared one cross only for the ball to fall to one of their players about thirty yards out. He ambled past a couple of challenges and shit just inside the post from the edge of the area.
Second half started with the Sons looking a lot sharper. The goal came after a spell of sustained pressure. A Sons player appeared to handle the ball in the area, it broke to McKinnon who blasted it home and nearly took the net away. Sons had a good spell for a bit after that but graudally Berwick got the upper hand again. The Sons were pinned back in their own half and they had a number of chances. The best of them was the ball appeared to be going in the net only for Currie to somehow hook it clear, in fact it looked like he had put in in the back of the net himself. In the end the Sons held out. A hard won point.
Never really looked like winning this one.
