The first half was, once again, dire. Our squad was a bit late leaving the pub but we got into Hampden just in time to see Dumbarton go 1-0 down. Magic. The team didn't get going at all. We had a chance to equalize but the ball came off the bar and then the keeper made a good save from the follow up by Falconer. To compound matters we then went 2-0 down . A long ball was played through. Kenny Meechan came out to kick it clear but the ball rebounded off a Queen's attacker or a Dumbarton defender straight into the back of the net. Disaster.
The start of the second half saw the Sons make a double substitution. Mooney and Ward came on and the match was transformed. Mooney, in particular, was superb. He controlled the midfield, set players up and tackled hard. Colin McKinnon got the first Sons' goal with a curling shot from the edge of the box which the Queen's keeper could only palm into his own net. Lee Sharpe coolly slotted away the second after picking up the ball from a defensive error. The third goal which sent the Sons fans into delirium was again scored by Sharpe following a lovely piece of flowing football. Queen's made a concerted effort in the last few minutes but we held out to secure the hard earned 3 points.
This set us up for a fine night of celebration which got off to cracking start when a hockey-playing girl flashed her lovely, pert breasts at us as she was leaving MacSwally's in Mount Florida. Nice... Yip, a cracking night was had by all. And I had a hangover in the morning.
