The first real game of the season turned out to be a cracker although the regular ninety minutes was largely forgettable. Queen's took the lead against the run of play, Edgar slotting the ball away on the volley after a low cross from the left.
Queen's keeper, Lindsay Hamilton had to make a few saves during the game including a cracker from a Robert Reilly looping header. Dumbarton's keeper, Kenny Meechan, aka King Kenny, made a similar save too.
Dumbarton seem to be a "last ten-minute team" these days and with 3 minutes to go Jamie Bruce blasted a fierce shot into the top corner to take the game in extra-time.
Extra time was hardly worth playing. Everyone in the ground could have guessed it was going to penalties. And what a penalty shoot-out it was. On three occasions Queen's Park only had to score to take the game. And on three occasions, Kenny Meechan pulled off a save. Dumbarton eventually won the game when a Queen's player hit the bar.
Superb entertainment. Bring on Aberdeen !
